  • Thursday, September 4: Public Schools open for the 2008-2009 school year.
  • Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m.: Meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge at the Emerson School, Pettee Street, Newton Upper Falls.
  • Wednesday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m.: Meeting of the Temple Emanuel Networking Group. David Pomerantz will speak about health insurance for the unemployed, under-employed and self-employed, and on how the recent changes in the Massachusetts health insurance system are affecting individuals who are on short-term or long-term unemployment.
    Temple Emanuel is at 385 Ward Street, Newton. The building is handicap accessible and there is on-street parking. Free and open to the public.
  • Tuesday, September 16, 7:00 a.m. -- 8:00 p.m.: State Primary Elections -- including the first Democratic challenge to John Kerry since he was elected Senator. The Absentee Ballots on the City of Newton web site reveals who's running where.

    Eight year old Donovan Sands has Dyskeratosis Congenita, a disease that less than 200 people in the world have. He will not survive without a bone marrow transplant, but there are no matches in the National Marrow Donor Program registry.
