  • Wednesday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m.: The first meeting of the 2004-2005 season of the Greater Boston Seniors Computer Group. Newton Senior Center, 354 Walnut St., Newtonville.
    Representatives from "Smart Computing" magazine will be there to demonstrate the features of their publications. There will be door prizes and a free copy of the publication for each attendee.

  • Sunday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m.: Longtime Newton resident Arthur Magni leads a tour through this community, which has been home to successive French Canadian, Irish Eastern European Jewish, Italian, and Russian immigrant families. The tour will begin with a discussion of the history of Our Lady Help of Christians Church and conclude with an interior tour of the Adams Street Synagogue. Meet at the Newton History Museum at 527 Washington Street. Free parking is available in the Museum's lot. Walking tour admission is free. Co-sponsored by the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs.
  • Tuesday, September 14:
    • Primary Elections. There is only one contested race in this primary, for Democratic candidate Sheriff of Middlesex County. The contenders are: James V. DiPaola (incumbent); Robert A. DeMoura; and Brian M. Gillis.
      The City of Newton Board of Elections is providing Sample Ballots for all districts and parties.
      Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can find out where your polling place is by going to the City of Newton's "Where Do I Vote" page.
    • at 7:15 p.m.: Meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge, at the Emerson Community Center on Pettee Street in Newton Upper Falls. Postponed from Tuesday, September 7
