  • Tuesday, October 4, at 7:15 p.m.: meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge at the Emerson School, Pettee Street, Newton Upper Falls.
  • Saturday, October 8: Annual Fall Cleanup of Hemlock Gorge. Volunteers should meet at Hamilton Place between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Sponsored by the Friends of Hemlock Gorge, who provide a map to Hamilton Place on their web site.
  • Wednesday, October 12, at 9:30 p.m.: Meeting of the Greater Boston Seniors Computer Group at the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut St, Newtonville. Tom Seamans, a computer user since the 1960's, will be the speaker: "From Squiggles to Symbols. A Look at MS WORD". Q & A sessions will follow the presentation. This is a repeat of a presentation given in March, when a snowstorm prevented many from attending

  • Sunday, October 16: Harvest Fair at the Newton Centre Green
  • Wednesday, October 19, at 6:45 p.m.: Community Dinner in the Sukkah at Beth Menachem Chabad of Newton, 229 Dedham St. Reservations are $20 per adult and $8 per child, and must be reserved by Friday October 14. Contact BethMenachemChabad@comcast.net or call 617-969-1170 for more information.
  • Sunday, October 23: 12:00 noon -- 2:00 p.m.: A Sukkah Party for children at Beth Menachem Chabad. Lunch will be served in the sukkah, followed by blessing the lulav and etrog, games and a sukkah craft project. The cost is $7 per child, maximum $20 per family.
