  • Tuesday, May 1, at 7:15 p.m.: Meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge at the Emerson School, Pettee Street, Newton Upper Falls.
  • Wednesday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m.: Meeting of the Temple Emanuel Networking Group. Edward Shapiro will talk about how to start your own business.
    Temple Emanuel is at 385 Ward Street, Newton. The building is handicap accessible and there is on-street parking. Free and open to the public.
  • Saturday, May 12, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Kids Fun Fest on the grounds of Newton City Hall.
  • Sunday, May 13, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Kids Fun Fest on the grounds of Newton City Hall.
  • Saturday, May 19, 11:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m.: Newton Open Studios. More than 170 artists display their work. Full details at www.newtonopenstudios.com.
  • Sunday, May 20:
    • 12:00 noon -- 5:00 p.m.: Newton Historical Society's 25th Annual House Tour. Tickets are required; full information at the website of the Newton History Museum.
    • 11:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m.: Newton Open Studios. More than 170 artists display their work. Full details at www.newtonopenstudios.com.
    • 2:00 p.m.: Newton Memorial Day Parade. All Newton residents are invited to join in honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country and our community. Parade route and more information are at the Veterans' Department page
  • Thursday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m.: Public Meeting on the MBTA's shutdown of the D branch of the "T". At the Newton Free Library.
    Scheduled to begin on June 23, this project will require the discontinuance of service along portions of the D branch to accommodate necessary repairs to the tracks.
    At the meeting, MBTA officials will discuss the scope of work, the schedule, as well as bus replacement service. In addition, time will be allotted for a question/answer period.
  • Sunday, May 27th: Memorial Day Observances; wreath-laying and prayer. Details at the Veterans' Department page
