  • Tuesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m.: meeting of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge at the Emerson School, Pettee Street, Newton Upper Falls.
  • Wednesday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m.: Meeting of the Temple Emanuel Networking Group.
    Back by popular request, speakers Julie Unger and George Zeller from Jewish Vocational Services will talk about strategic uses of LinkedIn for career and business development.
    Temple Emanuel is at 385 Ward Street, Newton. The building is handicap accessible and there is on-street parking. Free and open to the public.
  • Saturday, December 20: The Turtle Lane Playhouse, in conjunction with the Alexander Children's Theater School, is holding its first fundraiser concert series at the Turtle Lane Playhouse, 283 Melrose St., Auburndale. It is also supporting the Greater Boston Food Bank and Actions for Boston Community Development (ABCD):
    • at 1:30 p.m.: Family Holiday Concert: Kid's crafts, meet Little Red Ridinghood and the Handsome Prince from "Into the Woods", refreshments, raffles, theater tours, stories, and, at 3:30, a kid's concert featuring music, dance, and performance with sing-along.
      Admission: Children $10 in advance, $15 at door, 1 parent admitted free with each paid child admission. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for ABCD and get a free photo with Santa or the Fairy Tale character of your choice.
    • at 7:30 p.m.: 'Tis The Season Benefit Concert Event features concert with music, dance, and performance. Open house and raffle after concert.
      Admission: $30, $25 student/senior. $5 off ticket price if you bring a food donation for the Greater Boston Food Pantry.
      The raffle features 4 packages, each valued at over $1000:
      1. Sports package: event tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, family cross coutnry ski package...and more!
      2. Theater package: lots of theater tickets, theater subscriptions, StageSource Membership, and more!
      3. Kids' Package: voice and dance lessons, Nantucket Doll, theatre camp scholarship, and more!
      4. Beauty package: makeover session with celebrity stylist Dean Mellen, Photo session with a celebrity photographer (she's done Oprah Winfrey!), massage and more!
  • Sunday, December 28, 1:30 p.m. -- 3:30 p.m.: Mayor's New Year's Open House at Newton City Hall. Free. Entertainment, face painting, refreshments. You can download the flyer for more details.
